Thank You

Thank you to everybody who helped with the show.  From the feedback we have received it appears we weren't the only ones to think it was a success.

Special thanks must go to Andrew Phillips and Andrew Gaskin who helped with the show set-up.  They were extra welcome as two of the workers we had arranged didn't turn up.

Each year committee member Sheryll Sinclair makes up hampers that we place in the judges' rooms as a welcome gift / care package and this year her husband said he would sponsor them.  Thank you, Eddie.  The club appreciates your support and the judges certainly appreciated the hampers.

And the famous muffins ...  Thank you to Yvonne Murphy who supplied muffins for the workers on both days.  Our two European judges were so taken with them that this appeared on Facebook:

My thanks to ... the ladies of the club who made the muffins and rocky road cake - because they were really good and Tomo and I had 7 muffins between us. (Tomo had 5!)

(The 'home baking' came in for many positive comments from judges and workers.)

Of course with thank yours there is no way to personally identify all the people who did the big jobs or the little jobs, who came along and worked even though they don't have cats in the show, who came to the show dinner, who helped by being helpful to those from out of town or to the judges from overseas.  All these things contributed to a show that many people have commented was well organised and friendly.  Thank you to everybody who did their bit and made the show what it was.

New Member

We would like the welcome new member Casi Renner to the club.  Casi showed two cats at our show and ended up helping out at the door as well.

Committee Meeting – 20th May 2014

The committee meeting scheduled for the 13th was postponed at the last minute and we gathered instead on the 20th.

Margaret Morgan's resignation from the committee was accepted with regret.

- 2014 / 60th All Breeds Show - Debrief:
An extensive show debrief was held which covered what went well, not so well, and ideas for 'next time'.  One of the main issues discussed was the delay in getting the paperwork from the NZCF which caused considerable stress in the days before the show.  This will be followed up with the NZCF.

While the committee shoulders much of the responsibility of running the show it is the club's show and we welcome comments and suggestions about the show from any of our members.

- 2015 Show:
Next year's show will be held hard on the heels of the World Cat Congress and show (in Auckland) and we discussed how this might impact our 2015 show.

- Next Meeting: Tuesday, 10th June 2014
-- Time: 7.00pm
-- Location: Meeting Room, McDonalds, Rangitikei Street

How Much?

- Website: Expenses & Fundraising
Having a website and the pncatclub.co.nz domain is $40.25 a year.

Though not a huge money-spinner the Amazon.com link on the website has so far returned (in NZ$):
 24 Oct 13 -- 15.15
 25 Jan 14 -- 16.13
 25 Mar 14 -- 11.72
Total Raised: $43.00

This fund-raiser was organised by Jane Webster (as webmaster) and has covered the website costs for a year.

- Judges' Accommodation
Though it varies with the number of judges and the duration of the show (this year being a two-day show, for instance) accommodation for the judges is one of the larger costs the club faces when running a show.  Luckily by the time we come to pay this bill the entry fees are piled up in the club accounts and we do have enough to cover it.  (On the other hand a low entry for the show doesn't reduce our costs in the slightest, so that's always a concern.)  This year the judges' accommodation bill was $3,127.

2015 Cats Calendar Revisited

The calendar preparations had to be put aside in the lead up to (and recovery from) the show but I will now be getting onto this and those who have already expressed an interest should hear from me before the end of the month.

I am aiming to get the calendar in print and for sale before the end of June and sponsorship of the page costs $20 (plus supplying high quality photos).

Please contact me before the end of May if you're interested in sponsoring a page in the 2015 calendar.

History Notes

- Thank You!
Thank you very much to Wendy McComb and Lorraine Smith for the newsletters, yearbooks, and papers they brought along to the show to share with me.  It was all very exciting!

- 1964
In the lead up to the show I spent a lot of afternoons at the library going through the microfilmed copies of the newspapers of the 1950s and 1960s.  I could have got the information I needed from catalogues in a fraction of the time but early catalogues are rather hard to come by and some of the newspaper articles are interesting in their own way.  Here's one which has a couple of useful bits of information in it - the number of entries in 1964, and the number in 1963.
