Newsletter: June 2015

Late Newsletter, NZCF AGM, Volunteers

Yet another newsletter begins with an apology for its tardiness - in this case the June newsletter looks like it won't be out until July.  All my own fault, on this occasion, as I got home on the 18th June - just in time to attend the NZCF AGM in Wellington.  I went down from here on the bus on Friday afternoon - rather luckily as it turned out since Saturday morning's conversation over breakfast and as we gathered to start the AGM was all about the four attendees from Palmerston North who could not get through because of the bridge being undermined by the flooding.

Of course, at the AGM I discovered I had gained another job - a three-year term on the Executive Council.  I'm very excited to have been elected and looking forward to my time as the BSAC portfolio manager, but would also be interested in hearing from anybody who would like to take over the club newsletter from me.  It's not a huge job and I can certainly keep doing it if nobody is interested, but if there is somebody who would like to have a go at putting out a monthly newsletter for the club then now would be a great time to volunteer your services to the committee.

Committee Meeting –16th June 2015

As usual, thanks to Kerry Holden for supplying the meeting notes for this section.

- 2016 Show
We voted to proceed with our offer to host the 2016 National Show, on our usual show date. For this occasion the Show Secretary will take over all duties in regards to the National, should our offer be accepted by the EC, freeing up the Club Secretary to focus on club business only.

- General Business
Resignations were received from Kim Wylie and Donna Campbell. They were regretfully accepted.

We went through the EC remits and voted for our Club responses which Emma will take to AGM this weekend.

Voted to return to Tuesday night meetings.

- Next Meeting: Tuesday 14th July 2015
-- Time: 7.30pm
-- Location: Rumour Has It Cafe, 305 Rangitikei St, Palmerston North

Cards and Calendars
Our club fund-raising calendars and greetings cards are still available for purchase from Emma Kimberley or Colleen White.  (I've bought mine - a calendar and two sets of cards.)
April Calendar Page
The calendars are $15 and are the same format as previous years.  The greetings cards are 5 for $10 or $2.50 each.  There are nine different photos in the greetings cards (three of them shown below).  The cards are blank inside but have details of the cat's name, its breed, and the photographer on the back along with the club logo.  Each card comes with an envelope.

Show Results

Please let us know your show results for the newsletter.  We are always interested in how the cats of Palmerston North Cat Club members are doing throughout the show season. Photos from the show(s) would be very much appreciated, too.

History Notes – 1961

The photo isn't great as it is from a microfilm of a newspaper and was in the Manawatu Evening Standard (as it was then) on 30 May 1961.  I haven't yet found any catalogues from the 1961 show so this at least tells us who one of the judges was.  The caption read:

Mr. H.L. Arthur, of Hamilton, is shown with his "pink" cat. Although the cat is not the pink one imagines it to be, it has a faint tinge of the colour in the fur. The cat is the first cameo persian to be bred in New Zealand and in the Southern Hemisphere and is seven and a half months old.  Mr Arthur has been breeding cats of a specialised type for the past 10 to 12 years and he has 22 adult cats and about nine kittens.  He was a judge in the cat show held in Palmerston North.
