Learner Driver at the Wheel
by Jane Webster
As I’m sure most of you know, making a suggestion at a committee meeting generally results in the job being assigned to the person with their mouth open. This would be me, and the suggestion would be the resurrection of the club newsletter. It seemed like a good idea until I was faced with coming up with content, let alone format, but I’m sure everybody will be able to ‘make do’ with the basics until I get the hang of things.
I’m new to the club and the cat fancy and, apart from my two pet Ragdolls, I don’t know all that much about cats! Neither of ‘the boys’ will ever be show cats so as well as being a novice newsletter producer I’m a novice in almost everything else. Please bear with me if my lack of background knowledge becomes obvious.

The club has a new Facebook page for those members who are interested. It can be found here:
And if that web address looks like a long typing project, a Google search for ‘palmerston north cat club facebook’ does seem to find the page quite well.
I’m a novice to Facebook user myself but the page seems to be working nicely as a social point of contact for the club members and other cat folk from around the country.
Thanks to Emma Kimberly for setting this up and to Genevieve Rogerson for agreeing to administer it.

Website becomes Blog
We’ve been investigating spreading the workload of keeping the club website up-to-date between a number of people and have nearly finished moving over to a blog format where several of the committee members will be able to do quick updates without needing specialist knowledge or programs. The bulk of the information on the website has been copied over to the blog and can be found here:
Across the top of the page are links to the fixed information about the club; Home, Contacts, Joining & Membership, and Breeders. (It would be great if anybody who finds errors or details in need of updating could let one of the committee members know.) There is also a link in the left sidebar area to the club’s Facebook page.
In the main part of the blog you’ll find updated news, event dates and reports, and information about the club’s previous events.

News
The Spay/Neuter show (28 August 2011) held in conjunction with the Burmese Cat Club of NZ (Central Region) was very successful. New member Miki Li took some wonderful photos of the event and a selection of these can be viewed on the club blog and Facebook page.
The Pet Day at Animates (17/18 September 2011) went off smoothly. Thanks to all those members who were able to help out.
The date for the club’s 2012 All Breeds show is confirmed as Sunday, 6 May 2012.

Committee News
Preparation for the May 2012 show continues with the final few judging appointments being organised.
Wanting to build on the success of this years’ second show by holding it again in next year, the committee was disappointed that the NZCF Executive Committee reiterated their refusal to approve either of our requested show dates in August 2012. It has been decided it will be more productive to concentrate our efforts on establishing this show for the 2013 season.
