Michael Bowra
Entered the cat fancy in Canada in 1989 and began breeding and showing Birmans under the prefix Panador, bred Birmans for 23 years.
Michael gained his All Breeds judges licence in 1998 with the Canadian Cat Association. Since arriving in Australia in 2007 Michael has become licensed with QFA Inc in 2008 and has judged in Queensland, NSW, WA and SA as well as previously in Canada, USA and Germany.
Michael served on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Cat Association for 5 years.
Nick Tricarico
I am an All Breeds cat judge with the Governing Council of the Cat Fancy (Aust & Vic) Inc., better known as GCCFV.
I completed my Group 2 (Siamese/Balinese/Oriental/Foreign White) course in 1998 and in 2002 I extended my licence to include Group 3 (all other shorthair). In 2008, I successfully completed Group 1 (longhairs).
My breed interest is the British Shorthair and my wife, Cathy, and I have been exhibiting and breeding these cats since 1994 under the prefix of ‘Bevington’. We specialise in the colours of blue and black. We dabbled with the Siamese/Oriental and Selkirk Rex breeds for short periods in between as well.
We have been fortunate enough to have experienced a lot of success over the past five years with three of our cats which we bred and own winning Group 3 Adult of the Year over that time. In 2009, our Orange-Eyed female also won Group 3 Kitten of the Year. On top of this, we won Group 3 Breeder of the Year in 2010.
I have completed many local and interstate judging assignments in Australia. I have also been fortunate to judge at the Co-ordinating Cat Council of Australia (CCCA) National Shows in Brisbane in 2004 and in Melbourne in 2007. I also judged all exhibits at the Sydney Royal Show Kitten Carnival in April 2010 and Group 2 at the World Cat Congress in Melbourne in May 2010. I have tentatively accepted a judging assignment for the Australian Cat Federation (ACF) National Show in Adelaide in June 2013.
I have also been lucky enough to have judged a number of assignments in New Zealand over the years including Palmerston North, Rotorua, Taranaki, Wellington, Hastings, Auckland, Dunedin, and Oamaru, to mention a few, as well as at the New Zealand National Show in Nelson some years ago.
In my private life, I have been married to Cathy for almost 39 years and we have a son and a beautiful six year old granddaughter, Emily.
Fiona Cooper
I have bred Siamese, Orientals, Foreign Whites, Burmese, Devon Rex, Scottish Folds and even a litter of Abyssinians under the Fioric prefix, my first litter was born in 1986. I have been a regular exhibitor for over 28 years and have exhibited in most parts of NSW and occasionally interstate.
My first Maine Coon litter was born in 1999 and I’ve bred these amazing felines since then under the Coolcoons prefix. I’ve imported several of these cats from the UK, Norway, the USA and quite a few from New Zealand.
I have enjoyed considerable show success with Coolcoons cats and kittens having won many Best Group 1 Exhibit and Supreme All Breeds Exhibit in Show awards as well as NSW CFA Kitten and Cat of the Year Awards.
I’ve owned and/or bred Cat or Kitten of the Year in all 3 Groups with NSW CFA since I first began exhibiting.
I gained my Group 3 judges licence in 1999, followed by Group 2 in 2003 and I completed my Group 1 training in 2008 and have enjoyed judging in most states of Australia, in New Zealand and South Africa and transferred all those Licences in 2012 to TFA NSW.
Paddy Smith
I have a life-long love affair with cats, starting with a blue Persian, as a birthday present, at the age of 8, in the UK.
1976 National Show in NZ introduced me to smoke and cameo Persians, what beautiful cats, divine colours. Soon after that I discovered Exotics “the teddy bears” and they have become one of my firm favourite breeds. Although I have to admit, to a hankering for a Maine Coon, what a majestic cat, before my animal days are over!
I joined the judges list as a senior in 1996 and as a tutor judge I hope that I have helped younger up-coming judges to achieve their goals.
I enjoy the hype and camaraderie of the show scene here and in Australia.
Kay McArthur
I have been a Shorthair Judge for over 20 years. I started showing Domestic Cats in the early 70's. 1987 Geoff and I got our prefix Marabindi and started breeding Burmese.
In 1996 Dr Julia Bryce and I got the Macbryce prefix, 2005 we had our first litter of Burmillas. I have judged throughout Australia and New Zealand.
I enjoy Judging and look forward to seeing you and your lovely exhibits.
Cheryl St Clair-Newman
My involvement with the cat fancy started for me when I attended an All Breeds cat show in the late 1960’s. This was the beginning of my interest in longhair cats. In 1976 I was granted my Prefix under the name of ‘Taniver’.
My cattery has only ever been a very small, selective breeding cattery, mainly breeding pure Persian lines.
In 1986 I attained my longhair judging license, and then progressed to longhair tutor judge in 1997. My time and involvement spent training and mentoring new judges has been a great experience.
I look forward to judging your cats today and hope you all enjoy your day.
Thank you Palmerston North for inviting me to judge.
Richard Nelson
We got our first Siamese cat, a Sealpoint spay, from a pet shop in 1975. This was closely followed by blue point from a local breeder and then an Oriental Lavender and Havana Brown from my cousin who bred orientals under the Baranduin prefix. Our first breeding queen arrived in the early 80s and hooked us into breeding when Ted Warren gave her 8th Best in Show at the Northland show.
I entered judging school in 1987 and qualified as a judge soon after that. After that we showed Siamese and Orientals throughout the 1980s and 1990s with our last competitive show being in 2002. At times we have shown with only moderate success most solid colours of Siamese and Orientals but I have to confess a soft spot for blues and lavenders.
Our last litter of kittens arrived in 2005 and we still have a seven year old kitten from the litter and his oriental lavender mother.

Domestic & Companion Judges Profiles
Miranda Stevens grew up on a farm in Aokautere and was always lending a hand to stray and injured animals. She has never been without a cat around the house and her first was a beautiful tortie named Julia. Biggy and Louis, a couple of lovable moggies followed, but it was Christine Yeung who introduced Miranda to the Burmese breed. Rico her current chocolate Burmese is a typical charming trouble-maker and would often join Miranda at work, thriving on the attention and stimulation of a busy pet store.
Miranda is currently employed by Nestlé Purina PetCare as a Territory Manager, representing PRO PLAN® products and providing product and nutrition information to staff in vet clinics, pet stores and agricultural supply stores. She has been with Purina for five years and was recently fortunate to have the opportunity to visit the Purina Product Technology Centre in St Louis, Missouri where the science and technology behind the PRO PLAN® range of dog and cat food originates from. Miranda was thrilled to see that the passion, respect and dedication she has for pets, was shared by the Purina veterinarians, nutritionists, behaviourists and scientists she met during her time in the U.S.
Janet Molyneux
I have been involved with pets (large and small) through every stage of my life and qualified in the UK as Veterinary Nurse almost 25 years ago. I worked in Veterinary Practice and veterinary education in the UK before moving to New Zealand where my work and passion for healthy happy pets continued with me working as a lecturer in Veterinary Nursing, working as a veterinary Nurse and owning/managing a cattery and kennels.
I now work as the Director of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital at Massey University a job which lets me do the things I enjoy most, helping pets live happy healthy lives, meeting and working with pet owners dedicated to owning healthy pets and helping train New Zealand’s future vets and vet nurses/veterinary technicians.
Elaine Andersen
Owner of Sharella Park Cattery with Ross Andersen. Our cattery has been operating since 1999.
We have a quiet country setting situated on Kairanga-Bunnythorpe Road, Palmerston North. The cattery has spacious individual units and an indoor and outdoor recreation area, plenty of room to laze about. Our staff are very dedicated to the welfare of our boarders and cater for their different personalities. All our boarders are given individual attention as no two cats are the same. We care for your pets the way we would like our pets to be cared for.
Rosalie Martin
Rosalie has been a life-long animal lover and, although better known for the beautiful Shelties she has bred successfully for many years, she is also an avid cat lover and cat show attendee. Over the years she has owned several Domestic cats and also Pedigree Cornish Rex and Ragdolls. Rosalie is a Life Member of the New Zealand Kennel Club and is currently President of the Wanganui Kennel Society, a position she has held for many years. She is very much looking forward to judging the Domestic and Companion Cats for the Palmerston North Cat Club.
