How much?

Here's a quick note on some of the expenses the club has in running a show. Our upcoming show is a little larger than usual, being a 2-day, 6-ring show but one of the problems the committee faces every year is that before the entry fees start coming in the club has to start paying airfares. This year the air fares are:

$3,009.64 -- for the four Australian judges
$1,655.00 -- for the two judges from Europe

$4,664.64 -- Total

We are very lucky to have a judge-sharing arrangement with Australian clubs which helps us keep the costs down for the European judges, but it's still a lot of money for the club to find.

(This also explains why the committee were so busy with fund-raising!)

Membership Stats

For those (like myself) who like to know such details, the current club membership stands at:

- 42 full members
- 3 life members
- 2 junior members

Since I have been gathering up some of the club history I can tell you that in 2001 the membership was 96 and the committee size was 17 (compared with our current 12-strong committee). Some of our current newsletter readers were probably on that 2001 committee!

Annual General Meeting

The club had a successful (and short) AGM on Sunday 23rd February. There were 12 financial members present, 2 life members, and 1 junior member. Thank you to those who attended or sent apologies.

Nothing of note was passed at the AGM (translation: subs remain unchanged) and here are the 2014 office holders and committee members of the Palmerston North Cat Club Inc:

- President: Denise Grace
- Vice-President: Paul Holden
- Secretary: Colleen White
- Treasurer: Lorraine Smith
- Committee:
-- Kerry Holden
-- Judy James
-- Ross James
-- Emma Kimberley
-- Margaret Morgan
-- Genevieve Rogerson
-- Sheryll Sinclair
-- Jane Webster
- Patron: Bryan Surgenor
- Webmaster: Jane Webster
- Honorary Veterinary Surgeon: Genevieve Rogerson

After the AGM was closed the club's annual awards were presented to Brittany Holden, Noah Holden, Paul Holden, Jane Webster, and Margaret Morgan.

After awards presentations most of us gathered at the Rose & Crown in Terrace End for a meal and a catch up.

2015 Cats Calendar

We are again making a 'Cats' calendar primarily to sell to the public as a club fund-raiser. Although we were able to include information about showing cats and the May show on the 2014 calendar the main selling point of the calendars needs to be excellent photos of cats which showcase the pedigree breeds - and moggies.

Just like we did for the 2014 calendar we are seeking twelve sponsors who have great cat photos (usually close ups with very little background) and are willing to put a mere $20 into the fund-raising coffers. In return their photos will be placed on a ‘month’ page along with a small amount of text (the breed, the cattery, one form of contact). Pet owners and show families with $20 and great photos are also welcome as sponsors.

For those who didn't see the 2014 calendars they are wall calendars which are A4 paper sized when closed, A3 when opened, and are of very nice quality. To help prospective sponsors visualise the pages here's a link to some of the 'proof' pages we put on the club's blog for the 2014 calendar.

Please get in touch before 22nd April if you are interested in sponsoring a page in the 2015 calendar.

Seeking Donations for the Door Raffle

We will be holding a door raffle each day of the show and while we have pet beds to provide the 'base' of the raffle we would appreciate donations to fill the beds and make the prizes even more attractive to the public.

Please drop off any suitable donations for the door raffles to your nearest committee member.

Show Set-Up: 2nd May

Because the show is a 2-day show we'll be setting up on a Friday.  While we appreciate that this is a work day for many people but if you aren't working that day or have taken the day off to prepare cats could we please have some help to set up the hall from 9am on Friday 2nd May.

We're not asking people to commit to staying until the whole job is done – even an hour or so of your time would be much appreciated.

Committee Meeting: 11th March 2014
The meeting has moved locations - still at McDonalds but now in the Rangitikei Street location. (It has more comfortable seats!)

We are now very focused on the upcoming show so there was very little other business discussed except for fund-raising (raffle and calendars).

- 2014 / 60th All Breeds Show:
-- We have been billed for the air fares for the European judges.
-- The possibility of a display of Toyger breed cats was discussed.
-- The last few show jobs were assigned along with discussion over the details of consumables, the club pack-up, set-up day timings, etc.
-- It is time for posters to go out around the city.
-- Admission was confirmed at:
--- $4 adults
--- $2 children and seniors
--- $8 family

- Next Meeting: Tuesday, 8th April 2014
-- Time: 7.00pm

Random History Moment

I am putting together a history booklet to celebrate the club's 60th All Breeds Show and would be grateful for the loan of any old catalogues, old NZCF magazines, and anything that relates to the history of the club which could help with my project.

- 1960
A mention (Our Cats magazine, Nov 1960, p 30) of one of the early Palmerston North Cat Club shows along with some significant people and prefixes in New Zealand's cat fancy history:
