Newsletter: July 2014

June & July

Apologies for the lack of newsletter last month (June).  The committee meeting for the month cancelled - so no news - but it was also a busy time at my place.  The July newsletter is not a particularly plump one, either, but I am hoping to receive more show results from our members (more of our members) so that we can include them.  It's always great to hear about Palmerston North Cat Club cats doing well at shows.

Committee Meeting – June & July 2014

- June
The committee meeting 10th June was cancelled.  If I recall correctly there were few agenda items and many apologies!

- July
And in July the meeting scheduled for the 8th July was postponed a week due to the high number of apologies.  Finally meeting on 15th July the committee dealt with the usual business (correspondence, finance, etc) and tried to iron out a few processes which will make running each show a little easier (forms, etc).

The committee resolved to continue fund-raising in the upcoming year.

Rosette sponsorship was discussed and various packages will be developed to enable people to select a level of sponsorship that suits them.

- 2015 Show
The decisions about overseas judges are being held up by negotiations with other parties but we have had one of our 'pencilled in' New Zealand judges pull out.  We have identified and will be approaching a replacement.

The committee resolved to have rosettes for three rings for the 2015 show.

- Next Meeting: Tuesday, 12 August 2014
- - Time: 7.00pm
- - Location: Meeting Room, McDonalds, Rangitikei Street

How Much?

- Advertising - The Guardian
The door take at the show is the icing on the cake as far as making a profit at the show and a low door take can mean the difference between doing well and just breaking even.  One of the ways we get members of the public to our show is advertising in The Guardian.  This year that advertising cost us $172.50.

2015 Cats Calendar - Still Seeking Sponsors

Although we would have liked to have had this produced by now there has been only a small response from members willing to sponsor a page for $20.  The result may be endless of pages of my two pet Ragdolls (showcasing 'Companions')!  If this doesn't seem to be an inspired idea I will start approaching breeders from outside the local area - but we had wanted to give local people first chance at this.

If you do have $20 and great photos of your cats that you would like to showcase in the club's fund-raising calendar, then please get in touch.

History Notes

- 1953
I'll admit to being a bit of sucker for 1953 history items - the first show seems like an exciting moment in the club history given that the people putting it on must have had very little previous experience.

The following text is from the UK -published Our Cats magazine (August 1953) and the photo of the judge, Mrs Joan Thompson, from an earlier issue (November 1952).
