Jeanna Robinson

Former club member Jeanna Robinson died at home on 16th August 2014.  Jeanna was the mother of current club member Jody Robinson-Wildey and they attended cat shows together for many years.  During her time with the cat fancy Jeanna showed neuter/spay longhair and shorthair and then entires when she was breeding Abyssinians and Somalis using the prefix Habakat.

Our condolences to Jody and her family.

Committee Meeting – 12 August 2014

Almost all of the members of thecommittee were able to make it to this meeting which we held at Rumour Has It Cafe at 305 Rangitikei Street.  We also had new member Casi Renner join us.

Anybody is welcome to come along to the committee meetings!  If you plan to attend it would be great to advise us just in case we need to let you know about a last-minute change in plans.

- 2015 Show
Organising our judges is still moving quite slowly because some consideration has to be given to the World Cat Congress meeting (to be held 24th - 27th April 2015 in Auckland) and the National Show which will run in conjunction with this on the weekend before our show.  Nevertheless, two New Zealand judges have been confirmed.

A variety of rosette sponsorship packages are being developed.

- General
Fund-raising barbecue dates have been organised by Paul Holden.  Preparation of the calendar continues.

The committee discussed a possible remit for the next NZCF AGM on the subject of judges judging cats they have bred.

- Next Meeting: Tuesday, 9th September 2014
-- Time: 7.00pm
-- Location: To be confirmed

How Much?

- Calendars
Last year fund-raising calendars were produced and sold (sold mostly through Cahill Animal Hospital - thank you!).  The sponsorship of the pages by breeders and other club members was the primary method of fund-raising as the sale price to the public was kept low to make them easy to sell, thus allowing us to use the calendar as both a fund-raiser and an advertisement for the breeds, the breeders, cat shows in general - and ours in May.

Sponsorship of calendar pages =  $240.00
Profit from calendar sales = $224.00
 Total profit = $464.00

- Venue Hire
The cost we pay to hire the Barber Hall and Waldegrave Lounge varies a little from year to year (as it includes table hire and all sorts of things) but is about $1500 - but was rather more for the 2-day show this year!

Fund-raising Barbecues ... Helpers Required

Now, we know this isn't anybody's favourite event to help at - and for that matter it's not really the committee's favourite way to spend a Sunday, either - but we're keen to carry on doing these as they are very effective fund-raising for the club.  Having a little extra money in the bank protects the club against the ups and downs of running a show (unexpectedly low entries, a poor door take, etc).  We not only want to have a show in 2015 but want the club to be financially viable for many years to come.

So, the Palmerston North Cat Club has three upcoming barbecue fund-raisers outside the Mad Butchers in Pioneer Highway:

-- 19th October (Sunday)
-- 26th October (Sunday)
-- 9th November (Sunday)

We would appreciate some volunteers from outside the committee to help out for a minimum of a couple of hours on these days.  Check your diaries - can you help this year?

Plastic Soft Drink Bottles?

You may remember Jesh Designs as one of the stalls at our show.  They need empty soft drink bottles (in 600 mls, 1.5 litre, and 2.5 litre sizes) so if our club members could save these to help out that would be great.

Once you have some put aside you can either get them to a committee member or contact Denise Grace.
