The AGM

A big thank you to all those who turned up for the AGM last month. We did struggle to make a quorum but the plus side was that we got to have supper early while we rustled up a couple of extra members. Special thanks must go to our ‘quorum makers’ Bruce Chesterfield (dragged back into town) and Emma Kimberley (dragged out of her sick bed).

Unfortunately we were unable to complete the business of the meeting because the treasurer was also unwell and so we agreed upon a Special General Meeting to deal with the financial report. This has also given us a chance to catch up on an outstanding project – that of changing the constitution to try to resolve our difficulties in achieving a quorum.

Things that we did deal with at the AGM were:
-- the election of officers (all re-elected unopposed), and
-- the setting of subscriptions (also unchanged but with the addition of a ‘family membership’).

Special General Meeting

Special General Meeting: Tuesday, 14 August 2012
-- Time: 7.30pm
-- Location: Leisure Centre, Ferguson Street, P Nth

So, now we need a special general meeting. We’re going to hold it at our usual committee meeting time, so the 14 August in the Apricot Room at the Leisure Centre in Ferguson Street, starting at 7.30pm. We don’t expect it to take long with only two things to deal with:
-- the financial report, and
-- a vote on the proposed constitutional changes.

Along with this newsletter will be a copy of the amended constitution with explanatory notes about why each change is being proposed.

It would be a huge help if we could get a quorum for this meeting so if you can attend, please do. If you can’t attend we would be grateful for apologies to be advised to the club secretary, Margaret Morgan, so that we have some idea whether a quorum is ever going to be possible.

Congratulations

Congratulations to Mush and Christine Yeung’s Cairistona Blubelle who went Supreme Entire Kitten and Overall Supreme at the Burmese Cat Club of NZ Southern Region show held in May.

And also congratulations to Miki Lee who had a marvellous show with her neuter Ragdoll Aurorapetz Denis (Muffie) at the Hamilton Cat Club Show at the beginning of July. Muffie won two BIS (with two BAM), a runner-up BIS and a 3rd, then went on to be awarded Longhair Supreme and Overall Supreme. (Another of Miki’s cats, Sweetpea Too Cute For Words, got a 10th, a 9th and a 6th at the same show.)

Committee News

General:

The recommendations of the constitutional review sub-committee were unanimously accepted.

A club manual is being drafted, starting with job descriptions for the club officers.

Show Business:

The final show accounts for 2012 have been settled and the show was very profitable due to things like:
-- a grant for the hall hire,
-- sponsorship of rosettes,
-- doing our own paperwork, and
-- a good door take from the public

Dates for the May 2013 and August 2013 shows are still not finalised so available committee members will attend the EC meeting in Wellington later in the month to see if this can be resolved.

The club has received prizes for the May 2013 show from Animal DNA in Melbourne in the form of vouchers for DNA tests.

Six judges have accepted assignments to judge at the show in May 2013.

The possibility of using other (larger or more centrally located) show venues was discussed.
