We were very saddened to hear of the death of long-time club member and former club president Bryan Surgenor on 8th September 2014, aged 78.Bryan had a long association with the cat fancy and was proud that the 'Kendrick' prefix he applied for in the 1950s was still in use. Best known for breeding British Shorthair Bryan started out with Persians and Siamese but after a break found his perfect match in the 'British'.
When asked about his personal breeding aims (Flash Cats, 3Q 2008) he said that his contribution to improving the breed was made by 'starting off new breeders on the right track'.
For over a decade starting in 1985 Bryan was the president of the Palmerston North Cat Club and at the AGM on 5th May 1998 he was made a life member. At the time of his death he was the club's patron.
